Primošten, a small town on a narrow peninsula connected to the mainland by just a causeway, is one of the most recognizable images of the Šibenik riviera thanks to its dense cluster of stone houses surrounded by sea on all sides. Beyond the old town, the surrounding area is known for vineyards on stone terraces that produce Babić wine, one of this stretch of coast's protected indigenous wines.

The old town on the peninsula

Primošten's old town, once a genuine island connected to the mainland only in the 16th century, still retains that isolated, densely built character with narrow lanes and stone houses descending to the sea. Sailing around the peninsula offers a unique view of the town from every direction, rare for a settlement this size.

The Bucavac vineyard and Babić wine

Above Primošten stretch the Bucavac vineyards, a unique landscape of dry-stone terraces carved into rocky soil, where Babić is grown, an indigenous red grape variety protected by a designation of origin. While the vineyards themselves aren't visited by boat, their proximity to the coast means wine tasting can easily be combined with a day out on the water.

The coves around Primošten

The coast around Primošten hides a series of smaller coves with clear water, mostly accessible only by boat or a longer walking path, which keeps them calmer than the beaches right in the town center. These coves are ideal for a shorter stop during a day sailing along this indented coastline.

When to rent a boat in Primošten

The season runs from May to October, peaking in July and August. June and September offer warm seas and calmer coves, and September is additionally interesting for the grape harvest in the surrounding vineyards.
