Blato, one of the oldest and largest settlements on Korčula island, sits a few kilometers inland from the coast, while its seaside coves of Prižba and Gršćica on the southern side serve as its gateway to the sea. This combination of wine-growing hinterland and quiet coves makes Blato a different experience from the busier town of Korčula on the island's northeastern tip.

The Alley and Croatia's longest square

The center of Blato is graced by the Alley (Aleja), an almost kilometer-long row of plane trees planted in the 19th century, one of the longest landscaped squares in Croatia. Walking the Alley before or after sailing offers shade and a glimpse into the daily life of this large but relaxed town.

Pošip wine country

The area around Blato is part of the region known for Pošip, an indigenous white grape variety from Korčula's southern side. While the vineyards themselves aren't visited by boat, the proximity to the coast means it's easy to combine wine tasting inland with an afternoon swim at one of the nearby coves.

Prižba and Gršćica coves

Prižba and Gršćica, two small seaside coves on the south coast below Blato, offer sandy and pebble beaches and a less developed, family atmosphere compared to Korčula town. These coves are a natural starting point for guests staying in Blato, with easy sailing toward Korčula's outer islands or Lastovo from here.

When to rent a boat near Blato

The season runs from May to October, peaking in July and August. June and September offer warm seas and calmer coves, while the grape harvest in late September adds a special charm to visiting the island's interior.
