Camping in Vodice — 2027 Motorhome Guide: Krka National Park, Šibenik, Kornati and Car-Free Islands
Vodice lies on the coast between Šibenik and Tribunj, on the Adriatic coastal road (D8), and from the A1 motorway you exit at the Pirovac or Šibenik junctions. It makes a rewarding base for a motorhome trip: Šibenik's cathedral is about 12 km away, the Krka waterfalls about half an hour's drive, Tisno and Murter 20 to 30 minutes, and boats leave the town waterfront for the Kornati, Prvić and Zlarin. From Zagreb to Vodice it is about 340 km by motorway, from Zadar about 75 km and from Split about 90 km.
Where to stop with a motorhome in Vodice
In summer Vodice is a lively resort, and the centre along the waterfront and marina is easiest to explore on foot. Camping outside registered campsites is not allowed in Croatia, and in many coastal towns this includes sleeping in a motorhome in a car park. The simplest option is to leave the motorhome at a campsite near the centre and walk into town, to the beach and to the boats on the waterfront.
Autocamp Ivona: pitches in the shade of oak trees
Autocamp Ivona is right in Vodice. The pitches lie in the deep shade of old oak trees, which is a real advantage in July and August.
- Pitches: easily accessible, each with an electricity connection (16 A) and access to water; spacious enough for a motorhome, a caravan or a large family tent, with room for outdoor furniture.
- Facilities: modern sanitary facilities close to the pitches and free Wi-Fi across the whole campsite.
- Location: the beaches and the centre of Vodice are within walking distance, so your vehicle can stay at the campsite.
You send your enquiry about a free pitch and the price directly to the campsite through its page in our directory.
Krka National Park: Skradin or Lozovac
Two entrances to Krka are within easy reach of Vodice. Skradin (about 20 km, a 25-minute drive) is a small town at the mouth of the Krka, from where a national park boat runs to Skradinski Buk. Lozovac (about 25 km, 30 minutes) has a large car park by the entrance, and a park bus takes you down to the falls, so it is more practical with a larger vehicle. Skradinski Buk, a series of travertine cascades with wooden walkways, is the most visited part of the park; swimming there is no longer allowed. In summer, arrive at opening time, ahead of the heat and the tour coaches.
Šibenik and the Cathedral of St James
Šibenik is about 12 km to the south, a 15 to 20-minute drive along the coastal road. The Cathedral of St James, a stone building on the UNESCO World Heritage List, stands on a square in the old town, and above it rise St Michael's Fortress and the Barone and St John fortresses, with views over the channel and the islands. St Nicholas Fortress at the entrance to the Šibenik channel is also UNESCO-protected. The old town is made up of steep stone streets and steps, so you can visit Šibenik without the motorhome: by bus from Vodice or by the passenger boat line that sails from Vodice via Prvić and Zlarin.
The Kornati by boat from Vodice
Kornati National Park is a dense archipelago of bare islands with steep cliffs, the "crowns", facing the open sea. There is no road connection, so the motorhome stays at the campsite: in season, full-day excursion boats leave from the Vodice waterfront, and Murter is the nearest departure point you can reach by road. If you would rather sail the Šibenik waters yourself, take a look at boats for rent in Vodice.
Tribunj, Tisno and Murter
- Tribunj (about 5 km): an old centre on a small islet connected to the mainland by a bridge, with a small harbour and a marina.
- Tisno (about 16 km, 20 minutes): a village on both sides of a narrow channel, crossed by a swing bridge to the island of Murter. The bridge opens for boats at set times, briefly stopping traffic.
- Betina and Murter (about 22 to 25 km, 30 minutes): the people of Murter and Betina are traditionally the owners of most of the Kornati islands, and Betina has a museum of wooden boatbuilding.
Prvić and Zlarin without cars
Prvić, with the villages of Šepurine and Prvić Luka, and Zlarin are car-free islands, and a passenger boat line towards Šibenik sails to them from Vodice. Prvić Luka is home to the Faust Vrančić Memorial Centre, dedicated to the inventor and linguist buried on Prvić, and Zlarin is known for its coral-working tradition. Suggested itinerary: five days based in Vodice
- Arrival and Vodice: settle in at the campsite, evening on the waterfront.
- Krka: early morning from Skradin or Lozovac (about 25 km), beach in the afternoon.
- Šibenik and Zlarin: by bus or boat to Šibenik, then on by boat to Zlarin or Prvić.
- Kornati: a full-day boat excursion from the Vodice waterfront.
- Tribunj, Tisno and Murter: a short drive along the coast (about 25 km each way) and a swim on Murter.
With a few more days, it is worth continuing south to Primošten (about 35 km) and Trogir (about 70 km) or north to Zadar (about 75 km).
Season, heat and shade
The season runs from May to October. In July and August daytime temperatures regularly exceed 30 °C, and Vodice, Krka and Šibenik are at their busiest, so plan excursions for the morning and spend the hottest part of the day in the shade of the campsite or on the beach. On summer afternoons the maestral, a refreshing breeze from the sea, often blows. June and September bring warm sea and fewer crowds at Skradinski Buk.
