Boat Rental in Marina near Trogir — 2027 Guide: Blue Lagoon, the Drvenik Islands and Šolta from a Quiet Bay

Marina is a village about ten kilometres west of Trogir, at the head of a bay that cuts deep into the mainland. A stone tower stands on the waterfront, Marina Agana lies in the bay, and Drvenik Veli and Drvenik Mali sit in front of the bay's entrance. From Marina you head straight for the Blue Lagoon, Šolta and the coast towards Rogoznica without passing through the Trogir channel. This guide covers routes from Marina, distances, the season and winds, and the boats and trips you can book here.

Why start from Marina

  • A calmer start to the day. The bay is sheltered and away from town traffic, so boarding and heading out to sea is easier than in town.
  • The islands are close. The Drvenik islands are a few miles away, and a 150 hp boat reaches the Blue Lagoon in around twenty minutes.
  • Two directions. To the south and east lie the Drvenik islands and Šolta, to the west the coast towards Rogoznica and Primošten.
  • Close to the airport. Split Airport is about 20 km away by road.

Where to go by boat from Marina

Distances are approximate, and sailing times assume a 150 hp boat at around 20 knots.

  • Krknjaši — Blue Lagoon (about 6 NM, around twenty minutes). Shallow water over sand between the Krknjaši islets and Drvenik Veli gives the turquoise colour the lagoon is known for. Around midday in season it fills with excursion boats, so swimming is quieter in the morning.
  • Drvenik Mali — Vela Rina (about 7 NM). A sandy beach that local trips call the White Lagoon.
  • Drvenik Veli. An island with a small village and harbour on the way to the Blue Lagoon, so it fits easily into the same day.
  • Šolta — Maslinica (about 9 NM, around thirty minutes). A fishing village on the western side of Šolta, with the baroque Martinis Marchi castle and a string of islets in front of the harbour. A good place for lunch before heading back.
  • Čiovo — Labadusa beach in Duga cove, a quiet pebble beach where the three-island tour ends.
  • Rogoznica (about 10 NM, around half an hour). A village with the Frapa marina and the Dragon's Eye (Zmajevo oko) saltwater lake.
  • Primošten (about 16 NM, around 50 minutes). Beyond Cape Ploča, known as the weather boundary between central and northern Dalmatia: the sea there is often rougher, so this route is only worth it on a calm day and in a larger boat.

For departures from Trogir itself and longer routes to Hvar and Vis, see our Trogir guide, and for the old town on its peninsula and the nearby coves, our Primošten guide.

Marina Bay for a shorter day

Not every day at sea has to be a trip to the islands. Marina Bay and the coast towards Vinišće and Sevid are enough for half a day of swimming and anchoring in sheltered coves. For a day like that, even the smallest boat in our offer is enough.

Licence, season and winds

  • Licence. In Croatia, 150 hp boats require a boat leader licence or a recognised foreign licence. Without one, choose the Adria 500, a skipper or one of the trips.
  • Season. From May to October; July and August are in highest demand. In June and September the sea is warm and there are fewer boats in the Blue Lagoon.
  • Maestral. In summer this north-westerly wind builds from late morning until sunset and raises waves in the channel between the mainland and the Drvenik islands. Head for the islands in the morning and plan your return to the bay for mid-afternoon.
  • Bura and jugo. The bura blows in gusts from the mainland and is more common outside summer; the south-easterly jugo brings waves in from the open sea. When they blow, a short outing within the bay is a better choice than sailing to the islands.
