Boat Hire on Krk — 2027 Guide: a Sailing Yacht, Speedboats from Malinska, Punat and Košljun

Krk is one of the two largest islands in the Adriatic and is linked to the mainland by a bridge, which makes it one of the easiest places in the Kvarner to start sailing. This guide is about hiring a boat on Krk itself: what you can rent, roughly what it costs, where to go and what to watch for. Our separate piece on five beaches reachable only by sea is Top 5 hidden beaches of Krk.

What we offer on Krk

The Krk page currently lists one sailing yacht, and most boats on the island leave from Malinska. Prices are in euros and mean "from"; the owner confirms the exact amount for your date after an enquiry.

  • A sailing yacht for a week: Bavaria 50 Cruiser, 15.4 m, five cabins and ten berths, built 2007, €3,000 a week; a skipper can be added.

From Malinska, on the west side of the island, ten boats are currently listed for day hire, for example:

  • Calipso 21: 6.2 m, 115 hp engine, up to 8 people, €290 a day; according to the listing, rented without a licence.
  • Capella (Morion 605): 6.05 m, 150 hp engine, up to 6 people, full-day price depends on the season, from €176 to €275; a skipper is €15.40 an hour.
  • Eolo 730 Day: 7.3 m, 200 hp engine, up to 8 people, €460 a day.

Where to go

  • Along the coast of Krk. The island has an indented coast with coves and pebble beaches; specific coves are described in our piece on hidden beaches.
  • Punat and Košljun. In Punat bay lies the islet of Košljun with a Franciscan monastery, and Punat is known for its marina. A good half-day destination.
  • Baška. At the southern end of the island, known for its long pebble beach. A bigger boat suits the longer crossings.
  • Vrbnik and the east side. The coast facing the Velebit Channel is steeper and more exposed to wind, so take more care there.
  • Neighbouring islands. With the sailing yacht you can reach Cres, Rab and other Kvarner islands; with a speedboat it depends on distance and wind.

Rules and tips

  • Licence and skipper. Driving a more powerful boat requires the appropriate licence; if you do not have one, many boats offer a skipper. The conditions are in each boat's listing and the owner confirms them.
  • Who pays for what. Fuel, skipper and equipment differ from boat to boat, so check what is included in the listing before you enquire.
  • Booking. Boats are on request: send an enquiry and the owner confirms the date. A date is not free until the owner has confirmed it.
  • The bora. In the Kvarner the bora can blow up suddenly and strongly, especially on the east side of the island. Follow the forecast and the owner's instructions; the sea is usually calmer in the morning.

Season

  • June and September are pleasant months with warm sea and fewer crowds.
  • July and August are the most popular, so boats fill up earlier.
  • May and October are possible, but the sea is cooler and the weather less settled; some listings have lower prices in those months.
